Commuting Solutions, in response to our recently completed Northwest Regional Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Plan, is creating a regional coordinating council to advance TDM strategies for the northwest metro region. The council will convene local government staff, transportation service providers, partners and other stakeholders to move TDM forward in the region, improving multimodal access, connectivity, services, and programs.
The major intentions for the formulation of the council are to:
- Enable stakeholders to consult and coordinate with each other to advance TDM planning and implementation at a regional level
- Serve as a venue for providing information to stakeholders on current initiatives, new projects, partnerships, etc.
- Further TDM’s accessibility and visibility to the public throughout the region
- Provide support in searching and applying for funding opportunities to advance TDM strategies
Why is This Important?
TDM is such a diverse and intersectional field of work, transportation groups often work together on projects throughout the year that emphasize sustainability, accessibility, and efficiency of transportation options. With an emphasis on making these programs robust and interwoven with other transportation initiatives, the council will foster idea-sharing and creativity in any collaborative project.
Some examples of regional collaborative efforts are Commuting Solutions’ Regional Bike Share Study, which through the convening of local jurisdiction staff and BCycle (Boulder’s bike share program), aims to connect the public both with other cities in the region and the larger transit network to widen accessibility. Another example is the expansion of the Bike-n-Ride shelter collaboration that has implemented secure bike parking at RTD stations along US 36 and elsewhere in Boulder County. By convening regional stakeholders, Commuting Solutions and our partners will elevate addressing mobility access issues and creating solutions for those who travel in our region.
As we turn our sights onto the first meeting, we encourage any organization that looks to advance TDM in the area to join the council. This council lends itself best to organizations that look to perform technical planning help or provide transportation-related services to the public.
