What is Bike Share?

Bike share programs are innovative, community-focused transportation systems that make cycling more accessible and convenient. These programs allow users to rent bicycles from self-service stations located throughout a city or region and return them to any other station within the network—no need to own or store a bike yourself.

Whether you’re commuting to work, running errands, or simply enjoying a leisurely ride, bike share systems offer a flexible and eco-friendly way to get around. Most programs feature easy-to-use mobile apps, affordable pricing options, and real-time bike availability, making it simple to hop on and go.

Bike Share is Coming to the Northwest Metro Region

In 2024, Commuting Solutions , in partnership with local governments and businesses, completed the Northwest Regional Bike Share Feasibility Study. The study explored the viability, cost, and implementation of a docked e-bike share system across Boulder, Broomfield (City and County), Boulder County, Erie, Lafayette, Longmont, Louisville, Superior, and Westminster.

The results confirm that a regional docked e-bike program is feasible. With $1.5 million in initial funding secured by the City of Longmont through a grant from the Colorado Energy Office, the project is set to launch in 2026—bringing sustainable, connected transportation options to Boulder County, Longmont, Lafayette, Broomfield and Westminster
