Northwest Metro Region’s Mayors, Commissioners  Hopped Aboard the Flatiron Flyer In Support of RTD’s  “Zero Fares” Initiative

In celebration of RTD’s Free Fare for Better Air initiative to offer zero fares to encourage transit use during Colorado’s ozone season, the Northwest Mayors and Commissioners Coalition (NWMCC) and Commuting Solutions rode on the Flatiron Flyer, RTD’s first-ever Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service providing connectivity across the northwest metro region.

The special event was hosted by Commuting Solutions, the region’s multi-modal improvement, and funding advocacy organization, in partnership with the NWMCC, a coalition of elected government leaders in the northwest metro region.

Ride Along for Ozone Season Awareness

The press bus ride was Tuesday, August 9, 2022, during the 9 a.m. Flatiron Flyer BRT service from Boulder to Denver Union Station and coordinated to encourage residents, employees, and visitors to try RTD service throughout August when transit fares will be completely free. The free fare initiative from RTD was made possible by Colorado Senate Bill 22-180 to encourage more sustainable transportation during the height of Colorado’s ozone season.

About The Flatiron Flyer

RTD’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, the Flatiron Flyer, is the first BRT service to connect Denver with the northwest metro region’s businesses, federal institutions, and the University of Colorado Boulder. Riders have access to downtown Boulder, downtown Denver along with other stops along the U.S. 36 Corridor. The service comes every 15 minutes and allows for commuters and recreational passengers to leave their cars at home – saving money, time, and curbing personal air pollution. Whether traveling to work in Broomfield, a Rockies game in Denver, or a hike in Boulder – try the Flatiron Flyer!
