
CO 119 has been awarded $21 million from the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). Funding will come from the 2022-2025 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to fund improvements along the Diagonal Highway.
Funding will be used for:
- Commuter Bikeway
- Construction of the commuter bikeway between Jay Road and 63rd St. (not including underpasses)
- Jay Road
- Intersection safety improvements- upgraded traffic signal poles, singing, striping, lighting, and pedestrian improvements
- Transit queue bypass lanes
- N. 63rd St.
- Intersection safety improvements- upgraded traffic signal poles, singing, striping, lighting, and pedestrian improvements
- Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) platforms with passenger shelters
- Park-n-Ride
- Bikeway underpass (crossing underneath N. 63rd St.)
- Airport Road
- Transit queue bypass lanes
- Conversion of the median portion of Airport Rd to a one-way street, northbound only, including transit queue jump lane
- Signing, striping, marking, and signal improvements
- At-grade bicycle and pedestrian crossing improvements
- Commuter bikeway tie-in to the intersection
- Reconfigured lanes on Airport Rd north of CO 119 (to tie-in to the one-way segment)
- Branding and Wayfinding Study
- Creating a brand identity for the CO 119 BRT system
- Developing a wayfinding signage plan for each jurisdiction, RTD and CDOT to implement along the CO119 corridor including as part of the commuter bikeway, transit stations, park & rides, and connections to/from adjacent land uses
Local match for the grants was provided by RTD, CDOT, Boulder County, the City of Longmont and the City of Boulder. The project partners are continuing to seek additional funds to be able to complete the full multimodal vision for the Diagonal Highway corridor.
Construction of the funded elements is expected to begin in 2024.
