Breaking down the barriers to get more commuters out of their cars and on a bike

LOUISVILLE, Colo.—The US 36 Bikeway is up and running, and from June 13 to July 8, Commuting Solutions will host a challenge for employees along the US 36 corridor. The Bike 36 Challenge encourages employees to register at lovetoride.net/bike36 where they receive support, guidance and prizes just for giving bicycling a try. Even a 10-minute ride, anywhere, contributes to points earned by the challenge team.
Commuting Solutions Executive Director Audrey DeBarros explains, “With the construction and completion of the US 36 Express Lanes Project, Commuting Solutions has been working to ease traffic through our US 36 Congestion Mitigation Program. We are excited to expand our program efforts by rolling out the Bike 36 Challenge, which we hope, with its personalized approach, will result in an increase in cyclists in our corridor.” Unlike other online challenges, this challenge creates a local community and rewards cyclists for their participation no matter how far or how hard they ride.
US 36 Express Lanes Project Director Scott Rees adds, “The US 36 Express Lanes Project is one of the first CDOT projects to have a dedicated bike component. With the full opening of the bikeway and corridor-wide programs, such as Love to Ride, we hope that more people will be exposed to the simplicity of traveling US 36 via bike.”
The Bike 36 Challenge has already gained the attention of Oracle, Lowe’s and the Reed Group. These organizations account for over 1,000 employees and are among 13 of the organizations already signed up for the Bike 36 Challenge.
The Bike 36 Challenge is powered by Love to Ride, a platform successfully used by cities around the world to encourage their residents to trade their four wheels for two. This unique platform tailors a user’s experience based on their experience with cycling and offers words of encouragement throughout the challenge.
