Switchable HOV Pass

US 36 Express Lanes, a Great Option for Carpooling

Carpoolers who would like to travel for free in the US 36 Express Lanes are required to have an ExpressToll account and a Switchable HOV Pass (this device is also referred to as a transponder).

Upcoming Changes

The High Performance Transportation Enterprise (HPTE) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) are in the process of creating new procedures for motorcycles and carpoolers (HOV) who use HOV Express Lanes, which includes US 36 Express Lanes, Central I-25 Express Lanes and North I-25 Express Lanes. These new procedures will not impact the I-70 Mountain Express Lanes, Northwest Parkway or E-470. For the latest information, please visit CDOT’s “New Procedures for Motorcycles and Carpoolers” webpage.

Create an Account

It’s easy to set up an ExpressToll account and get a HOV Pass! Once your account is set up, the Switchable HOV Pass will be mailed to you in 3-5 business days.

The Switchable HOV Pass allows vehicles with two or more passengers to travel on the US 36 and I-25 Express Lanes for free. When using the HOV Pass as a carpooler, make sure to slide the switch to the red “HOV” position so you are not charged a toll.
